VenuG Presents: Egocentric Food Critics & Michelin Stars are replaced by Social Media & Smartphone Smart Alec

Do we need food critics at all?
Oh! yeah we do!
That's how we first hear about them,
But AFAIK these days those with spending power have other ways to find restaurants
&
Hence we can stop treating Michelin Star giving Food Critics & Guide Books
A Lower than "Demi God" status.
Those who can go have wherewithal to find good places
&
As Mr Vir Sanghvi says, "In other words , over 90% or more of the people who read a restaurant review, will never ever visit the restaurant they're reading about. In case of Brunch readers much less than 1% of our readers will go. It's not like movie reviews where millions go to see each movie " (even in which case 5* movies fail & 2* ones succeed check the latest "Welcome Back" as an example trashed by every reviewer but loved by the movie goer as paisa vasool phillum. )

Hope Mr Vir Sanghvi writes "How to find a place to eat from social media "

This week I've been
A) Denied Valet parking as "No one comes on motorbikes"
I may as well come on unicycle.
B) Shifted from a vantage point Table in front at a music invite i was requested to attend because "my (partner's) family was to sit there"
C)  Refused a groupon offer paid for "as it was not printed"
D) Whereas, I ate & praised food
At
I) Where security & manager dissuaded me to enter, as the AC was not working.
II) Where I was asked to not enter lounge as hookah smoke would offend me    , I went, ate reviewed.
E) Was invited to a high tea book launch & pay registration fee at a restaurant, which is good, great ambience & even better food.(I refused to go, please do not call if I need to pay, I'm paying for the food ya?"
My take, in recession & ongoing competitive world of hospitality, when every day small brands like Wow Momo succeed due to great service, product  & Chai Break for friendly hospitality, management needs to strengthen #HR & Training to enable staff to handle #customers & #guests with kid gloves
Zomato, Instagram #reviews work more than #michelin stars these days. Social Media #nfluencers Google Maps ratings do help.
But #smartphone yielding Smart Alec has one upped the critic
Now there are Times Food Guide, HT Food Guide, Highway on my plate,  Will travel for food, books like Saransh Goila's India on my platter, but I frequently use Instagram hashtag #FoodPorn + , to select places to eat, read #Munnar or #Kumarakom to decide where to travel to. " #Hummus #Kolkata " "Tortilla #Kolkata " to decide.

Zomato & Google Places ratings
Foursquare reviews
Blogs, Book my show user reviews
I watch movies with no2 rating on bookmyshow to have better entertainment at a lesser price. On Zomato I never visit places with ratings higher than 4.5 as I know that would get me snooty captains & maiter de hote at a higher cost.
If captains of the industry need exclusive club & stay empty, good luck to them, I'd rather go to "Boudi's Kitchen" for bhapa Ilish than pay higher at Oh! Calcutta !!!
Because I'm paying, there are no free lunches neither to me, nor to the hotel, my footfall comes at a cost, I pay cash, you pay respect to me
Or you can

#ProTip Municipal Hospitals are better equipped against Dengue than private ones(antidote & symptomatic diagnosis(to be confirmed by a #bloodtest . In private even non-dengue cases treated as dengue.
#Symptoms sudden high fever , severe headache/joint pain, bleeding, rashes(after 5-6) bleeding.
#Diagnosis only confirmed by blood tests (as many viral fevers have similar symptoms.
#Treatment
DO NOT TAKE  ASPIRIN/IBUPROFEN (WILL INCREASE BLEEDING) TAKE PARACETAMOL(CROCIN)

Dengue (pronounced DENgee) fever is a painful,
debilitating mosquito-borne disease caused by
any one of four closely related dengue viruses.
These viruses are related to the viruses that
cause West Nile infection and yellow fever .
An estimated 390 dengue infections occur
worldwide each year, with about 96 million
resulting in illness. Most cases occur in tropical
areas of the world, with the greatest risk
occurring in:
The Indian subcontinent
Southeast Asia
Southern China
Taiwan
The Pacific Islands
The Caribbean (except Cuba and the
Cayman Islands)
Mexico
Africa
Central and South America (except Chile,
Paraguay, and Argentina)

Most people in the UK who catch dengue fever
have travelled to South-East Asia and India. In
2012, 343 people were diagnosed with dengue
fever in the UK. All were people who had
recently returned from travelling abroad.
Most cases in the United States occur in people
who contracted the infection while traveling
abroad. But the risk is increasing for people
living along the Texas-Mexico border and in
other parts of the southern United States.

#Symptoms
Symptoms of Dengue Fever
Sudden, high fever.
Severe headaches.
Pain behind the eyes.
Severe joint and muscle pain.
Fatigue.
Nausea.
Vomiting.
Skin rash, which appears two to five
days after the onset of fever.

#Diagnosis
Your GP will ask about your symptoms and
examine you. Tell them if you’ve recently
travelled abroad and whether you’ve been
exposed to mosquitoes. It can be difficult for
your GP to diagnose dengue fever because the
symptoms are similar to many other bacterial
and viral infections.
If your GP suspects you have dengue fever, he
or she may ask you to have a blood test. This is
to see whether you have signs of the virus in
your blood and/or certain antibodies for dengue
fever. These can confirm whether you have the
infection. Your #blood will be sent to a #laboratory
for #testing.
#Warning
#Treatment #DoNOTTake
#Ibuprofen or #Aspirin
Take #Paracetamol
#Crocin

There isn't a specific treatment for dengue
fever. However, but your body will usually fight
off the virus within three to four days of the
rash appearing.
Self-help
There are things you can do to help your
recovery.
Rest and drink enough fluids. Your GP may
suggest that you take oral rehydration salts
to help prevent you becoming dehydrated.
Take paracetamol to help relieve your pain
and reduce your fever. Don’t take aspirin or
ibuprofen as this can worsen any bleeding
you may have. Always read the patient
information leaflet that comes with your
medicine and if you have any questions, ask
your pharmacist for advice.
Hospital treatment
If you're severely dehydrated, have severe
symptoms of dengue haemorrhagic fever or
your symptoms suddenly become worse, you’ll
need to be admitted to hospital. You may need
to have fluids through a drip in your arm. Most
people make a full recovery if they receive the
right treatment.

VenuG Presents: A One Much Louder Lesson on Customer Feedback To Vijay Nair & NH7 Weekender

The background for the blog is the lineup anounced by One Much Louder, Vijay Nair's excellent indie event management outfit, for the Annual NH7 weekender to be held between 24th October, 2015 to December 4-6, 2015 in 5 cities. Shillong(Oct 24-25), Kolkata(Oct 31-Nov1), Delhi(Nov 28-29) Pune(Dec 4-6) Bengaluru(December 4-5) Book tickets HERE

The whole line up HERE

If you look at the lineup, it consists of great musicians, not only talented, but also extremely creative indie & exponents of OC contemporary "outside mainstream" bolly/Molly or any wood (Except A R Rahman)
But, But, But,
The sucker that I am for music & musicians, I passionately support indie musicians, by sharing their music, sharing their gig updates, and whenever I get the time, attend their gigs too. I have known many of them musicians & bands individually for years. But, as I ranted last year, when Parikrama(A Band celebrating their silver anniversary) was performing only an acoustic Jam session(corrected this year with acts at 3 places) & Kolkata Bands, like Cactus, Fossils performing not at Bengaluru, Pune or Delhi, but ONLY in Kolkata. Not having Bhayanak Maut or Amit Trivedi at Kolkata(Later added) & Not having International Acts (Megadeath this year is a great thing for Kolkata's Fanatic Metalheads)
What did I find this year???
Cactus , Fossils, Neel & The Nightbulbs, Pink Noise, Underground Authority the local Kolkata Bands playing ONLY AT KOLKATA!!! STUPID DECISION!!!
Also young Nishchay Parekh playing at Kolkata (Also at Shillong & My at Pune Too! I'm so happy for the kid I saw singing Mervin Gaye Blues at The American Centre Eons ago)
Now also seeing Soulmate & Lou Majaw perform at Shillong, The Raghu Dixit at Bengaluru & Faridkot at Delhi made me wild with anger!!!
Are you supporting indie music, when with such high priced tickets & a branded sponsor like Bacardi, you can't put bands, outside their home turf?
Many musicians on my Facebook timeline, might get offended by reading this blog post of mine, but hey, I've heard you all many times over. With such ticket prices, I may as well fly to Pune/Bangalore on the December 4-6 weekend and hear AR Rahman, Mark Robson, Dr L Subramaniam , Peter Cat Recording Naa? Logical no?
Further NH7 & OML have done injustice to Bands by not giving them new audience/Fans, Isn't my reasoning perfect?
Appalled I tweeted the following.
Remember Offering A Bangali Hilda(Ilish in Bengaluru or Pune is better, & Thayir Shadam to a TamBrahm in Saddi Dilli,  or Mutta Stew/Appam (Egg Stew & Hoppers) to a Mallu like me in Kolkata, or Lassi/Mattha/Makki diyan rottiyaan ttey Season Da Saag to a Sardarni in Bengaluru. This is "Ghar ki Murgi Daal Barabar"
I tweeted THIS.

Vijay Nair's reply altogether shocked me. I'm a consumer hard to please, to me, a businessman(After all OML is a business for profit not an NGO Ya?) cannot take me for a royal ride, by giving me anything less than "VALUE FOR MY HARD EARNED MONEY"
DO YOU GET IT OML?
ONE MUCH LOUDEST ADVISE.
Better listen to my counsel,
It is in YOUR INTEREST

OFFERING KOLKATA BANDS IN KOLKATA IS LIKE SELLING A COMB TO A BALD NAN.
&
THE BANDS DO NOT GET ANY VALUE ADDITION BY PLAYING TO THE SAME AUDIENCE THAT ANYWAY ARE THEIR  FANS!!!

And here comes the punchline
I started with "Customer is always right & when in doubt re-read rule one!!!

And the conclusion that, my sane counsel helps OML in the long run. I don't gain a thing if crowd get better options. If music lovers get more than their money's worth, I'm a happy man. I'm anyway a music keeda, I will anyway support indie musicians. Whether NH7 exists or not
Following, Doing, Supporting & Mentoring Musicians for 37 years now, I'm not going to change. But if along with OML, musicians gain too, isn't it a win-win situation? Does it make any difference to the costing? Not that I know of!!

Here is a live example of what kind of crazy stuff I do.
😁😁😁😁😝😝😝😝😊😊😊😊😍😊😊😊😊😊
If still OML/NH7/Bacardi/Weekender don't get it
God help them.

VenuG Presents: Why We Ready? Open Letter to Central Banker Raghuram Rajan, Draghi & Janet Yellen on Interest Rate Review

"वीणा के तार इतने भी ना कसो
कि वे टूट जाऐं
और
इतने भी ना ढीले छोडो
कि वे बेसुरे बजें"
~गौतम बुद्ध
It is strange, that, there is a move to curtail independence of the Central Bank of India, The Reserve Bank of India, popularly known as the RBI on its role in monetary policy , I.e. which basically is used to control inflation.
My latest tweet

"
@VenuSpeak: 11:00 AM IST. #Monetary_Policy review. #RBI rate #MyView here

Monetary policy is a measure generally used by Central Banks(Like RBI, ECB, US FED)
or sometimes by some regulatory body defined by the Sovereign Governments (which the Indian Government is seeking suggestions whether to set up or not {the clarification given by the Government of India last night , intends to deny of any such move)
Monetary Policy is basically affected by the following. } to control inflation using measures like hike/reduction in either the interest rate or statutory reserves to be maintained by the Banks. Also by sale or purchase of Bonds(Like QE1/2/3 & suggestion of 'tapering) by Ben Be nanke in US from 2009 & Japan in 2007 or US & UK during The Great Depression of 1930.
Rise & Fall of Inflation.

Why?
Demand / Supply increase in M1(Money Supply ) rise increases fall decreases inflation.
Cost push. Cost of Inputs, wage rate, jobs, (1997-2008)input material prices.(1970 oil prices increase, 2000 increase in crude prices, 2014 fall in crude prices.

How inflation is controlled?
1 Interest Rates
2 Statutory Reserves to be maintained by Banks with the Central Bank.
3. Bond Sale/Purchase.

What affects inflation?
1 Increase/Decrease in Money Supply(M1)
2. Crude oil/Gold Prices.
3 Cost of basic necessities like food clothing, shelter, healthcare & energy prices.
4 Balance of Payments.
5 Gap between Real Rate of Interest & Rate fixed BT the central bank.
6 Foreign Exchange Reserves.
7 Jobs increase increases decrease decreases.
8. Sentiments of trade cycles, boom, recession, depression, stagflation, hyper inflation

What is #VenuQuotes
"Inflation is a by-product of development cycle , hence a reasonable level of inflation is a necessary evil"

I have one Pro Tip to Both Raghuram Rajan & Janet Yellen.
Read what Buddha told his disciple
Excess & Obsession about just one thing causes break or cacophony.
Do NOT put over emphasis on either inflation or jobs.
Excess of everything is bad.
At the end of the day, it is meant for human race. What's the use of this hawkish stand, when there is slump in demand resulting in lack of jobs?
Reduce Rates to Rajan
Increase Bond Rates to Yellen.
Satyameva Jayate.
To Government of India, Ministry of Finance & Arun Jaitley
Keep a Hands of Policy.
India is today better than Europe, US & China, because of an independent & adamant Cebreal Banker called Dr Y V Reddy. Had he not put an embargo on mortgage loans & realty loans in 2005, India would have had 2008 contagion too.
Jai Hind.

Once, when the Buddha was told that one of his disciples was having trouble, he went to the young man’s room to see what the problem was. This young man had been born in a rich family, and he had been trained in music, so he still kept his vina – an instrument something like a guitar – in the corner of his room. When the Buddha entered, he saw the vina and said, “Let me see if I can play your vina.”
The disciple reluctantly brought it forward. He didn’t know that the Buddha had been an expert musician.
The Buddha tightened the strings of the vina until they were about to break. The disciple protested, “You are not supposed to tighten the strings like that, Blessed One; they will break!”
So the Buddha, with tender cunning said, “Oh, yes! Then should I make them loose?” And he loosened all the strings until they couldn’t be played at all. “Here, let me do it for you, Blessed One,” said the disciple, and he adjusted them. “They are now just right, neither too tight nor too loose.”
The Buddha smiled, “Yes, you see, that is what my path is: just right, neither too tight nor too loose. Moderation in everything. Temperance in everything.”

VenuG Presents : Which 4GLTE Phone to Buy With Focus on Camera.

If you're looking for just the Camera compare
1 Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 ₹9999 ,
2 Micromax Yu Yureka ₹8999.
&
3 Microsoft Lumia 638 . ₹6999.

All have 4G LTE.

First 2(Xiaomi & Micromax) have 13mp back/5mp front camera with dual flash. 2Gb RAM 8Gb phone memory 32Gb expandable . memory(₹1200)
Last(Microsoft) has 5mp back/no front camera but Ziess lens. 1Gb Ram. 132Gb expandable memory.
IMO Yu Yureka is best, as a smartphone, but purely as a camera Windows 8.1 Lumia 638 is awesome, as

 A) Windows needs less memory for use, 5mp Nokia Camera when used with Nokia Software/Instagram works great plus
B)With small sized Apps & 128Gb storage Windows phone can download 2000 Apps including Adobe Photoshop, PicsArt & 200 Photo Video editing softwares which are light in size & fast to use. On an Android/Cynogen phone once you download Chrome, Google Play, Play store, Facebook, their is no scope to download any other app as the error message "insufficient phone storage " keeps cropping up on the Google play store!!!
